Mixed reaction to role of waste in circular economy plan

The European Federation of Waste Management and Environmental Services (FEAD) noted that existing rules on waste management had not been properly enforced or applied in half the EU countries, and called for “further initiatives” to ensure correct implementation.

FEAD said Europe needs “strong and responsive recycling markets”,  welcoming plans for mandatory recycled content in products. However, it called for measures to “reduce large scale landfilling, and consequently to shift waste treatments higher up in the hierarchy”.
