Did you know? FEAD published 10 policy recommendations for the Circular Economy Act!

This week, FEAD – the European Waste Management Association – unveiled a set of 10 bold and practical policy recommendations aimed at shaping the upcoming EU Circular Economy Act. With decades of expertise in waste and resource management, and thanks to the input of our members across Europe, these recommendations reflect what is needed to make the circular economy a true success.

Why does this matter?
The Circular Economy Act will define how the EU manages its resources, boosts recycling, and reduces waste. Yet, to meet our climate goals and reduce raw material dependency, we must go further. That’s why FEAD is calling for a strong, ambitious, and market-driven circular economy policy.

Our recommendations are designed to:
♻️ Boost demand for European recycled materials through binding targets, incentives, and green public procurement.
💶 Level the playing field for recycled content by addressing structural cost disadvantages.
🌍 Ensure a real Single Market for recyclates with harmonised End-of-Waste criteria.
🚛 Simplify cross-border shipments and cut red tape.
🧱 Strengthen Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) to drive eco-design and ensure fair cost distribution.
🚫 Phase out toxic substances while supporting recyclers with realistic thresholds.
🔥 Recognise Waste-to-Energy (WtE) as essential for non-recyclable residues.
🚨 Tackle battery fire risks with a dedicated EPR Battery Fire Fund and proper infrastructure.
🕵️‍♂️ Enforce fair competition and avoid green dumping.
📦 Support digitalisation and traceability to enable better circular flows.

Our recommendations offer clear, actionable solutions for policymakers and industry leaders alike. We want to ensure these messages reach those shaping the future of Europe’s green transition.
