Hazards Out | Workshop 6

Join us on 07 October 2026, 11:00 CET for a strategic conversation on what it takes to move from separate collection to effective household hazardous waste (HHW) management!

Building on the momentum of the previous Hazards Out workshops, this sixth and final session of 2026 steps back from individual case studies to ask a broader question: once separate collection is in place, what is still needed to make HHW management effective, sustainable and engaging?

Workshop 6 – Is Separate Collection Enough? How to Improve Household Hazardous Waste Management will bring together local and regional authorities, waste management operators, national waste management associations, industry, academia and NGOs to take stock of the series so far and look ahead. This workshop will examine:

• The Hazards Out Toolkit for Effective Separate Collection of HHW, bringing together the knowledge, case studies and practical insights gathered across the workshop series;
• The key elements of effective HHW management, and how local authorities, operators and policymakers can identify opportunities for improvement in their own systems;
• The remaining gaps and challenges in HHW management, and how national and European strategies can better support local authorities and waste operators;
• Practical ways to strengthen cooperation between institutions, municipalities, waste operators, industry and other stakeholders in building sustainable HHW management systems.

The session will also feature a panel discussion offering a strategic exchange between stakeholders on how HHW management can be further strengthened at national and European level.

Participants will benefit from first-hand insights from public authorities, industry and researchers, and will have the chance to join an open discussion on the way forward for household hazardous waste management in Europe.
