State of the Union: On 10 September, Commission President, von der Leyen, gave her annual State of the Union speech during which she stated that ‘we must stay the course on our climate and environmental objectives’, before the MEPs.
European associations on deregulation: Before von der Leyen’s speech, more than 400 civil society and trade union organisations from all over Europe, co-signed a declaration urging the EU and its MS not to weaken the rules that safeguard the people and the environment.
Waste Framework Directive: textiles and food waste: On 9 September, the European Parliament adopted the new EU rules to reduce textile and food waste.
End-of-Life Vehicles: On 9 September, the European Parliament adopted its position on the ELV Regulation. Read here FEAD’s press release.
Public procurement: On 9 September, the European Parliament adopted an own-initiative report on public procurement ahead of the Commission’s proposal expected by the end of the year.
Re-attribution of scientific and technical tasks to the European Chemicals Agency:Three amendments (available here, here and there) were published in the EU Official Journal on 9 September.
Regulation on the fees and charges payable to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA): Member States approved the increase in corporate contributions to the budget of ECHA via a written procedure finalised on 30 August.
PFAS – Belgian restriction: The Belgian Minister, Jean-Luc Crucke, for mobility, climate and environmental transition wants to ban the use of PFAS in certain products.
PFAS – France: A French decree on releases of PFAS in water was published on 9 September.
PWC study on waste tax: DWMA, FEAD’s full member from The Netherlands, has commissioned a study by PWC which assesses the impact of the strongly increased tax for waste incinerators proposed by the Dutch Government.
2025 Strategic Foresight Report: On 9 September, the European Commission published the 2025 Strategic Foresight Report which identifies eight areas of action where Europe can strengthen its resilience.
Methodology for assessing greenhouse gas emissions savings from low-carbon fuels: On 11 September, the European Parliament published a study by the Policy Department for Transformation, Innovation and Health on the methodology for assessing greenhouse gas emissions savings from low-carbon fuels.
Implementation and streamlining of EU internal market rules to strengthen the single market: On 11 September, the European Parliament adopted the resolution on the implementation and streamlining of EU internal market rules to strengthen the single market.
Green Taxonomy: The European Court of Justice recently ruled on three cases concerning Green Taxonomy (find here and here).
Simplification of administrative burdens in environmental legislation: The consultation on the future environmental omnibus Regulation closed on 10 September with record participation. FEAD submitted several proposals, which are available here.
