Commission suggests transition period for DIWASS implementation: On 10 April, the European Commission published the report of the Expert Group on Waste Shipments meeting held on 27 March, outlining next steps for the Digital Waste Shipment System (DIWASS). The annex proposes postponing the mandatory use of DIWASS for Annex VII shipments until 1 January 2027, with a transition period during which current procedures remain in place and no sanctions should be applied for non-use.
Zero Pollution Platform renewed: On 7 April, the European Commission published a call for applications to join the Zero Pollution Stakeholder Platform, renewing the initiative created under the Zero Pollution Action Plan.
Joint call to maintain authorised representatives: On 9 April, FEAD together with organisations across manufacturers, producer responsibility organisations and civil society published a joint call urging EU legislators to abandon the suspension of Authorised Representatives under the Environmental Omnibus.
Industry calls for EU-wide EPR register: On 7 April, a coalition including PRO Circularity Alliance, Euratex and EPBA published a joint letter calling on the European Commission to establish a centralised European register for extended producer responsibility (EPR).
MEPs scrutinise online marketplaces over unsafe products: On 16 April, Members of the European Parliament’s Internal Market Committee invited a representative from Temu to a committee discussion on the sale of unsafe or illegal products in the EU.
Plastics industry urges action on circularity and competitiveness: On 8 April, European Plastics Converters, Plastics Recyclers Europe and Plastics Europe published a joint letter welcoming the relaunch of the Circular Plastics Alliance (CPA) as a critical opportunity to get Europe’s plastics circularity ambitions back on track.
