EU act on carbon removal certification published: On 17 April, the delegated act on certifying carbon removals was published in the Official Journal of the EU.

S&D MEPs outline demands for circular economy regulation: On 15 April, a letter from S&D MEPs to the Commission called for stronger measures in the upcoming circular economy framework.

Ellen MacArthur Foundation outlines priorities for EU Circular Economy Act: On 23 March, the Ellen MacArthur Foundation published a paper on the EU Circular Economy Act, highlighting its potential to establish common rules for circular solutions across the single market. 

EU leaders to discuss energy prices and budget: On 14 April, European Council President António Costa published an invitation letter ahead of the 23–24 April informal summit in Cyprus. Leaders will discuss the economic impacts of geopolitical tensions, including measures outlined in the Commission statement, such as state aid, coordinated gas storage, and oil stock releases.

Commission delays heating and cooling strategy: The Commission has postponed its heating and cooling strategy, previously scheduled for 19 May, as reflected in its latest agenda.

Parliament reviews Critical Raw Materials Act amendments: On 16 April, ENVI members considered the amendments to its opinion on the revision of the Critical Raw Materials Act. 

EU ETS briefing: On 14 April, a European Parliament briefing highlighted some key elements of the ongoing revisions of the EU Emissions Trading System. 

Study assesses ETS impact on waste incineration: On 16 April, Zero Waste Europe published a study finding that including municipal waste incinerators in the EU ETS would not significantly increase landfill use. 

State aid policy evolves to support EU priorities: On 16 April, a European Parliament briefing on state aid outlined how EU rules have evolved to support crisis response, industrial policy and climate objectives.

New chair appointed to Regulatory Scrutiny Board: On 13 April, the Commission announced the appointment of Leopoldo Rubinacci as chair of the Regulatory Scrutiny Board, succeeding Rytis Martikonis. 

EU Inc. proposal aims to simplify cross-border business: On 15 April, a European Parliament briefing outlined the Commission’s proposal for a ‘28th regime’ corporate legal framework introducing a new EU-wide company form.
