After months of warnings from the plastics recycling sector, Commissioner Jessika Roswall hinted at ‘short-term’ measures to boost demand for European recycled plastics. Could this be the long-awaited plot twist for recyclers?


European Parliament plenary session: This week’s plenary session will be a busy one. Today, 20 October, MEPs from the ENVI Committee will vote, on microplastics, soils and pollutants in water. The same texts will also be put to a plenary vote this same week.

October Infringement package: The European Commission has published the list of October infringement cases.

EU action against ultra-fast fashion: On 2 October, MEP Dan-Ştefan Motreanu (EPP, Romania) sent a written question for answer to the Commission on EU action against ultra-fast fashion.

CSRD & CS3D: On 13 October, MEPs in the JURI Committee adopted all compromise amendments on the simplification of the CSRD and CS3D.

ECHA – Fees and charges: In July the Commission presented a proposal for amendments to the regulation on fees and charges payable to the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA). The finalised version of the amended regulation was published on 16 October in the EU Official Journal.

Proposed export ban on European scrap metal: On 7 October, MEP Niels Flemming Hansen (EPP, Denmark) sent a question for written answer to the European Commission on the proposed ban on European scrap metal.

FEAD News: On 15 October, the European Commission’s Directorate-General for the Environment and the European Economic and Social Committee announced the 24 organisations that will form the ECESP Coordination Group for the 2025-2028 mandate which FEAD is a part of for the next two and a half years.
