Plastics lobby pushes to ease waste shipment rules within EU

ENDS Europe – 18 October 2022 – Rules on transporting waste between EU countries are hindering plastics recycling, industry groups have warned in a joint statement on revising the Waste Shipment Regulation. The current ‘pre-consent’ regime for transferring waste to certified facilities, set out in article 14 of the regulation, should be harmonised across the bloc and sped up to “allow plastic waste to be shipped swiftly to compliant facilities for recycling”, reads the statement signed by Plastics Europe, the European Waste Management Association (FEAD) and the European Recycling Industries’ Confederation (EuRIC), among others.
