FEAD “very concerned” about EP vote to ban exports of plastic waste
EUWID – 25 January 2023 – The European Parliament introduced some positive changes in its vote on the amendment of the EU Waste Shipments Regulation (WSR), the European Waste Management Association (FEAD) said last week. However, the industry group believes Brussels lawmakers also missed an opportunity for “needed reforms that will further boost the circular economy in the EU,” such as strengthening the role of pre-consented facilities. Prior to the vote, FEAD and other associations had lobbied for the adoption of harmonised EU-wide criteria for the granting of pre-consented status. The association, which represents the interests of private-sector waste management companies, is “very concerned” about the Parliament’s vote to ban all exports of plastic waste to non-EU states, said FEAD’s new president Claudia Mensi in a statement.
