‘Paradign shift in the Circular Economy – Towards a New Product Policy?’, 18 September 2023

In recent years, the old linear waste management (“produce-use-dispose”) has already changed at an incredible
speed towards an ambitious circular economy, driven in particular by the European Union with the European
Green Deal and the new Circular Economy Action Plan.
At the evening event, current political and legal developments in the circular economy will be discussed. In
addition to the necessary further developments on the waste side, new challenges on the product side of the
circular economy will also be highlighted. In this context, questions of circular design and production play an
essential role. In the future, products should be as durable, repairable and recyclable as possible right from the
outset. The European Union has placed this principle comprehensively on its agenda and closely linked it to the
economic and socio-political issues of climate protection, resource efficiency and securing raw materials.
For example, the further development of the Waste Framework Directive of the European Union and the
proposals for a Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation and for an Ecodesign Regulation have a major
influence on the waste management industry and the manufacturing sector.

But what environmental policy conclusions can be drawn from the current activities and what will evolve from them for the circular economy
of the future? How can we succeed in making circular economy a successful model and thus avoid waste as well
as conserve and recover valuable resources? We will discuss these and many other questions on the panel and
together with you.
