Circular Economy Act (CEA): On 01 August, the Commission opened a public consultation on the CEA. The consultation will be opened until 06 November.
Imports and exports of metal scrap: On 23 July, the DG for Taxation and Customs Union announced that the Commission had activated surveillance systems to monitor the import and export of metal waste and scrap in and out of the EU.
International Plastic Pollution Treaty: From 05 August, to 14 August, the second part of the fifth session of the Intergovernmental Negotiating Committee will take part in Geneva.
Net-Zero technologies and the list of specific components used for those technologies: On 28 July, the Commission Delegated Regulation on net-zero technologies and the list of specific components used for those technologies was published in the EU Official Journal. It will enter into force twenty days after its publication on 17 August.
Digital Product Passport (DPP): On 25 July, the Commission launched 4 surveys for specific groups of stakeholders on the DPP. The surveys are aimed at companies (including SMEs) who primarily work in circularity and waste management, companies and SMEs who, as responsible economic operators, are required to produce a DPP for their products, individual consumers and associations and national market surveillance or custom clearance authorities. The surveys are open until 27 August.
Battery Due Dilligence obligations – Omnibus: On 30 July, the Regulation delaying the obligations of economic operators concerning battery due diligence was published in the Official Journal of the EU. It entered into force on 31 July, the day following its publication.
Dutch Waste treatment tax – Question for written answer: On 16 July, MEP Sander Smit (EPP, The Netherlands) submitted three questions for written answer to the Commission about the compatibility of the proposed tax with the precautionary principle, the proportionality principle and the proximity principle.
REACH revision – restricting PVC: On 05 June, NGOs ClientEarth, the EEB and several other NGOs, sent a joint letter to Commissioners Stéphane Séjourné and Jessika Roswall asking for a confirmation of a timeline for the preparation of a REACH restriction proposal on PVC and its additives.
Fees and charges payable to ECHA – Draft Commission Implementing Regulation: On 25 July, the European Commission published a written consultation on its draft implementing regulation on the fees and charges payable to ECHA.
Voluntary Sustainability Reporting Standard for non-listed SMEs (VSME) – EFRAG reaction: On 30 July, the European Commission’s adopted, in the form of Recommendation the VSME, a standard developed by EFRAG.
