European plastics value chain: FEAD, in coordination with 27 leading actors across the European plastics value chain have sounded the alarm in a joint letter addressed to EU policymakers. We’ve put forward six strategic recommendations to combat the pressing issues suffocating the industry, including low-priced imports, soaring energy costs, legal uncertainty, administrative burdens and regulatory fragmentation. Critical Raw Materials (CRM) – Strategic projects: On 3 September, an answer given by Executive Vice-President Séjourné on behalf of the European Commission on the financing of strategic projects was published. It is in response to a Question for written answer by Green MEPs Majdouline Sbai (France), Maria Ohisalo (Finland), Ana Miranda Paz (Spain), and Sara Matthieu (Belgium).
Amending the European Climate Law – Briefing: The European Parliament published on 2 September, a Think Tank Briefing on the European Climate Law.
End-of-life vehicles (ELVs): On 3 September, the European Parliament tabled amendments to the proposal for a Regulation by the Commission on ELVs. The amendments will be voted in plenary on 9 September.
French consultation on PFAS: The French government has opened a public consultation on a draft decree which aims to reduce industrial discharges of eternal pollutants into water by 70% by 2028. The consultation is open until September 5.
A second draft decree implementing the law on PFAS is also open to public consultation until September 5.
Environmental public consultations: In a judgment delivered on 1 August, the European Court of Justice clarified the Directive on the Environmental Impact Assessment.
Franco-German Economic Agenda: One 1 September, the President of the French Republic and the Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany published the Franco-German Economic Agenda.
2025 Report: State of EU progress to climate neutrality: At the start of September, the European Climate Neutrality Observatory published the third annual assessment of progress towards climate neutrality confirms that the EU is moving in the right direction, but that the pace is still too slow.
Own initiative Public procurement report: On 3 September MEPs tabled amendments to the own initiative Public procurement report by Piotr Müller (ECR, Poland). This will be voted on in Plenary on 8 September.
