European Council conclusions: On 26 June, the European Council took place. During the meeting, the Council reached several conclusions on key files.
Clean Industrial State Aid Framework (CISAF): On 25 June, the Commission adopted a new State aid framework accompanying the Clean Industrial Deal (CISAF). In response to this publication, FEAD published a press release where we echoed the call from the Commission to Member States to make full use of the existing possibilities to support the circular economy.
Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR): On 24 June, four more legal actions were brought against the PPWR and published in the EU’s Official Journal on 24 June. Find the cases here, here, here and here.
Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CRSD) & Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D): On 23 June, the Council agreed on its position on the CRSD and CS3D.
EU Chemicals Strategy for Sustainability (CSS): On 23 June, the European Parliament Think Tank published a briefing on the EU chemicals strategy for sustainability.
The carbon footprint of waste – ACR+ report: On 26 June, the ACR+ published a report titled ‘The carbon footprint of waste’. The report analyses how to reduce emissions through more circular waste strategies by giving insights from seven cities and regions.
Carbon Removal and Storage Agreement – Switzerland & Norway: On 18 June, Norway and Switzerland announced a new agreement on Carbon Capture, Utilisation and Storage and Carbon Dioxide Removal, which is the first international deal to be conducted under article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement.
Toy Safety Regulation: On 26 June, IMCO voted on the provisional agreement on toy safety following the trilogues that concluded on 10 April.
Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive (UWWTD): During a Council meeting with European Ministers on 20 June, the Italian Minister of Health, Orazio Schillaci, called for the suspension of the UWWTD.
Action plan for chemicals industry – EEB proposals: On 18 June, the European Environmental Bureau published recommendations for the Action plan for the chemicals industry, scheduled to be published by the Commission on 8 July.
EFRAG Progress report on ESRS simplification: On 20 June, EFRAG published a progress report to provide an update on the work on the simplification of the European Sustainability Reporting Standards (ESRS).
