Hello from Brussels. As spring is fast approaching so is the PPWR deal? On friday, COREPER confirmed the Revision of the Packaging & Packaging Waste Directive. During last week’s plenary session, the Parliament adopted the draft report on the Waste Framework Directive revision.
At FEAD, we’ve been busy prepping for our workshop on PFAS today, 18 March as well as our Hybrid workshop on Circular Value Chain Partnerships on 16 April. 

Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR): The agreement on the Regulation was confirmed during the COREPER meeting on 15 March. 

Waste Framework Directive: On 13 March, during the plenary session in Strasbourg, MEPs adopted their position on the revision of the waste framework directive. 
FEAD released a press release on the topic, in which we celebrate the adoption but we remind legislators that ‘to achieve our goals, we must also ensure that all involved actors will equally apply the new rules and procedures. It is crucial, on the one hand, that all textile producers, regardless of their size, are covered by the EPR, and on the other hand, that all operators handling waste fall under the same rules.’

PFAS restriction project: In a 13 March press release, the European Chemicals Agency stated that the initiators of the PFAS Universal Restriction project will update their proposal in order to take into consideration the comments received from the consultation. 

New measures to enhance the EU’s water resilience and improve water quality and quantity: On 11 March, the European Commission adopted two delegated acts on the topic. 

Ambient Air Quality Directive: On 11 March, the Parliament’s ENVI Committee approved the agreements on the topic.

Industrial Emissions: On 12 march, the European Parliament adopted the agreement with Member States on the revision of the industrial emission directive (IED) and the new regulation on the Industrial Emissions Portal. 

Urban Wastewater Treatment Directive: On 11 March, the ENVI Committee approved the agreement on the urban waste water directive. 

Soil Monitoring Law: On 11 March, the ENVI Committee adopted its report on the draft directive on soil monitoring. 

Green Claims Directive: On 12 March, the European Parliament adopted its position on the ban on misleading environmental claims. 

8th Environment action programme (8EAP): On 13 March, the European Commission published its report on the mid-term review of the 8th Environment action programme. 

EU Law Infringement procedures: On 13 March, the European Commission launched its monthly infringement procedures. 

EEA Report on European Climate Risk: On 11 March, the EEA published its report titled ‘European Climate Risk Assessment’

The Circularity Gap Report 2024: The Circle Economy Foundation published, in January 2024, the Circularity Gap Report 2024

Right of access to environmental information: In a ruling on 7 March, the European Court of Justice ruled in favour of an NGO that was refused access to data relating to the location of permanent sample plots used to draw up a forest inventory for confidentiality and public security reasons. 

EU-Switzerland: On 12 March, the Council authorised the Commission to negotiate with Switzerland on future EU-Switzerland relations.
